The benefit is that you still have low gearing for the hills but shifting overall is simpler and more reliable. Front derailleurs have never worked well off-road. All you lose is the very highest gears which are almost never used anyway.

The other equipment is pretty standard for this level bike: aluminum frame, double-wall rims, mechanical disc brakes and front suspension.

This is a great affordable bike for teens and young adults who want to venture off-road.
