GIRO Tyrant MIPS MTB Helmet

Do you like to go out and push the boundaries of your riding? Come unstuck a bit and tend to eat a lot of dirt? For some types of riding an XC lid isn't enough and a full face is often too much. To address this, Giro has designed the Tyrant, an extended coverage helmet that gives you a lot of the extra confidence-inspiring protection that a full face offers, only without the associated Darth Vader breathing noises and claustrophobic feelings.

Extended lower wrap helmets have been in the BMX scene for years as those guys tend to crash pretty hard. They are just starting to appear on MTB rider's heads, with Cody Kelly, Josh Bryceland, and the 50to01 crew recently starting to rock them on the trails.

Who's this item for: The Tyrant is for anyone that likes to go out playing on their bike and pushing their limits. It's designed for aggressive trail riding whilst also being perfect for hitting dirt jumps all day long.

Construction: Hardshell, moulded polycarbonate outer with an extended lower wrap to cover the ears. EPS outer liner with EPP inner liner.

Rotational liner:  The Tyrant makes use of the MIPS Spherical system which is essentially a refined and beefed-up version of the normal MIPS system. MIPS Spherical takes things a few steps further as the system comprises of two shells: a harder, EPS outer shell to deal with violent, high-speed impacts while the softer EPP inner shell is there to deal with low-speed impacts. This, combined with the "full-cut" design of the Tyrant makes for an extremely safe and capable helmet.

Straps: Single chin strap using a quick-release buckle.
Retention System: The ROC LOC Air DH retention system features a large, easy to grip dial and allows for vertical tuning to get the fit just right to suit your lumpy noggin'.
Ventilation: There are 14 vents with internal channeling to maximise the airflow using Giro's Stack ventilation system. This allows for seamless integration with goggles and helps to eliminate fogging by drawing warm air up and away from your lenses. The cheek pads are also highly ventilated to maximise the airflow inside the helmet.

Padding: The Tyrant ships with two sets of cheek pads: one thick, and one thin so you can fine-tune the fit to suit your preference.

Weight: All that extra material and tech with the MIPS Spherical system makes the Tyrant a bit weightier than your typical trail helmet but it does offer much more protection. A medium-sized Tyrant weighs approx 620 grams.

Pros: Awesome tech in the liner, and a design that maximises comfort and safety.

Amazing robot helper
Color: White
I’ve been using this robot vacuum for about a month now, and I have no regrets about buying it! It’s noticeably quieter than my previous robot vacuum, and the mopping performance is excellent. I really like that it has two large water tanks—one for clean water and one for dirty—which makes a big difference as it easily covers my entire house on a single run. I don’t have carpet, so I can’t speak to how it performs there, but for vacuuming and mopping tile and hard floors, it absolutely deserves high praise. The battery is another big plus—it can clean my whole house before needing to return to the base to recharge. The app is fantastic. The mapping is very accurate, and there are plenty of cleaning options to customize different areas of the house. The initial app setup did require some help, but customer support was quick and very helpful. Overall, I’m a very satisfied customer and would definitely recommend it!

Great upgrade from my old robot
Size: Freo S, Size: Freo S
I had a different robot vacuum for a little over four years, and it finally started giving out, so I decided to try this one. It’s definitely an upgrade. The first thing I noticed is that it runs much quieter than my old one, which I really appreciate. The self-emptying feature is super convenient as I don’t have to dump the container every single day like I used to. It mapped my home surprisingly fast. It moved through each room for a minute or two and somehow had the whole layout figured out almost immediately. I did adjust the room boundaries a bit, but nothing complicated. Cleaning performance has been solid. I usually run it on the highest suction because I have a cat and a couple of carpeted rooms, and it handles the hair pretty well. For hardwood, there are lower modes too. It also has a mopping feature, but I don’t use it—I prefer my regular steam mop for that. Setup was easy, and connecting it to the app took just a moment. And it charges quickly too.

Great value, Easy Set-up
Size: Freo S, Size: Freo S
I just got this vacuum and honestly, I’m pretty happy with it for the price. Here’s how it’s been going so far. Price: This thing is a steal. Works just as well as some of the more expensive ones I’ve had. Set up: It took maybe 5 minutes to get it going, and I didn’t even need to look at the manual. Super easy to set up and start mapping. Carpet: Does a great job picking up dog hair and dust on my low-pile carpet. Doesn’t miss a spot. Thresholds: It goes over low doorways and small lips—no getting stuck. Navigation: It uses structured light for obstacle avoidance, which is typically found in much higher-end models, and it really exceeded my expectations. The cleaning path is smooth, and it avoids furniture without bumping into anything. It just works. Base station: Very hands-off. It docks and charges itself. Plus, I love how sleek and simple it looks.

Good value for price
Size: Freo S
Update - returned due to lackluster battery power. It would vacuum on “regular”, and come back to recharge after less than a hour. It’s too bad, because otherwise it was great. This is a pretty good system for the price, especially if you have primarily hardwoods/tile. It’s not great on carpet, and I really need a vacuum with more suction power. It will not remove enough pet hair from my low pile and washable rugs to make the investment worth it. Battery does not last as long as other models I’ve tried. It returns to recharge many times for my 3000 sq ft. I have a multi level house, with multiple thresh holds (home has many additions). I need a vacuum that can save 6 maps. This only saves 3 - which to be fair is typical in this price range. I don’t even know if there is a vacuum that can save 6? WiFi was easy to connect. Not too noisy when running. Seems well-made. Just needs more suction for my needs. Overall this is a decent system for this price point. I need something more powerful so I’ll probably be upgrading.

Not slim
Size: Freo S
Update AGAIN! I have had it 7 months now and it started making a noise like it was stuck on something but theres nothing at all there. Contacted customer service and they said its the brush and lid, so they send a new one. Great. I get it and install it and it makes the noise still contacted customer service again and they said we can send a new brush and lid, i said i just received a new one and its still making that noise. Now they said we will get back to you soon but its been 5 days and nothing. I have contacted them again and still nothing Update. I’ve had this for several months now and theres a few problems beside it being not thin enough to go under furniture. I dont like to set up ‘task’ because its not always convenient at the same time each day so i usually just open app and push start. The problem is that it doesnt do all the rooms even if i have chosen all the rooms it also doesnt self empty unless i go into the app and self empty it. It does sometimes but not always. Now customer service says that i have to set up task, but why?! We should be in control of the robot not the robot of us. Also, you can not send it to a specific spot it missed. If i move my robot over a spot to revacume, it loses its mind and wants to start remapping. I still like that it vacumes well(besides missing here and there) but i do regret getting it. Also it sucks on edges, so i sweep the edges to it vacumes more. Will not keep them in mind for the futre. Received today. Way easier set up to wifi than the coredy. Way quieter too. Its not slim and wont go under my sofas , that was disappointing. It needs at least a 4inch clearance 5 to be safe. Dont recall seeing that in description but i could be wrong . It also doesnt have a way to manually navigate it , either a control or a way from the app. I will try it out since i like the quietness and the sucking power.
