 Wood Options

Amboyna Burl - Although technically not a distinct species but the burl is wood from any of the Pterocarpus species. It is among the most expensive woods and sought after of all the burls. Commonly used in fine furniture, guitar tops and knife and gun grips.

Ambrosia Maple - This is wood from a Maple tree that has been infested with the Ambrosia Beetle. This beetle bores tunnels in the wood and a fungus grows that causes the black and gray streaks. As the tree matures the streaks create a beautiful pattern.

Bethlehem Olive Wood - A light wood with a beautiful dark grain. Straight from Israel and comes with a certificate of authenticity with each pen.

Black & White Ebony - A cream colored base with jet-black streaks and stripes throughout. This wood originates from Southeast Asia and Laos.

Bocote Wood - One of our favorites! It is a Mexican wood with a black grain over a yellow/brown wood that gives it a striking appearance.

Brazilian Tulip - Not to be confused with American Tulipwood. This is a true rosewood and is stunningly beautiful. Colors can vary wildly between orange, red, yellow and pink.

Buckeye BurlBuckeye Tree is from the easter US and California. It is a lightweight wood and has beautiful clusters and color variations. A burl is an unnatural growth on the bark of a tree sometimes called tree tumors. They have beautiful unique patterns in grain.

Canary Wood - This wood is very strong and grows in South America. It can grow 100 feet high, and some trunks can be up do 3 feet wide. It is a light wood with reddish streaks.

Carob Wood - Bethlehem Carob Wood is from the Holy Land. This is a beautiful wood with a wide range of colors from creamy white to a beautiful pink.

Cocobolo - A hardwood that comes from a species of trees in Central America. Everyone loves Cocobolo!! Beautiful orange/red wood with darker stripes. It is my favorite! So many variations of colors and markings.

Curly Maple - Curly maple is favored by musical instrument craftsman. It is called "Curly" due to the unique patterns and grain effects in the wood.

Desert Ironwood - From Southwestern United States and Northwestern Mexico this wood ranges from an orangish yellow to a darker red or brown. Sometimes displaying darker violet streaks and sometimes almost all black.

Figured Koa - This wood is a Hawaiian wood with medium brown color that when stabilized goes darker. This wood has a very nice figure design pattern.

Goncalo Alves - Sometimes this wood is referred to as Tiger wood, brown with dark streaks that can give it a unique look.

Kingwood - A true rosewood from Brazil that has brownish/purple colors with nice dark stripes running through the wood for great contrast.

Macassar Ebony - Predominantly black with hints for brown stripes. this wood is from Indonesia and is a heavy hard wood.

Maple Burl - This wood comes from a Maple tree that has a knotted disfiguration in the wood. A burl is an unnatural growth on the bark of a tree sometimes called tree tumors. They have beautiful unique patterns in grain.

Padauk - This is an exotic wood that is deep orange, almost crimson color wood with a nice grain pattern. Its origins are Africa and Asia. It grows in small groups and is common in rain forests.

Pau Santo - Also known as Brazilian Blackheart, this wood is very dense and has an interlocking grain pattern. It also at times has a pale yellowish sapwood that is striking.

Pistachio - Known for its edible nuts, this wood is uniquely beautiful though not seen often in wood products. It is also strongly fluorescent under black light, glowing a yellow green color.

Purpleheart - A deep purple wood that turns darker as it ages. The grain is usually straight but sometimes wavy and irregular.

Red Flame Box Elder - This wood is yellowish brown, often with red or pink streaks. The streaks are produced by the trees natural defense when injured.

Spalted Tamarind - Tamarind wood is a beautiful wood from Southeast Asia. It comes from wood found on the forest ground that has been left in very damp warm conditions. The patterns are very unique and caused by insects.

Thuya Burl - This wood has been used since the days of Solomon & David. It is one of the few woods mentioned in the Bible, referenced by John in the Book of Revelation. The oil distilled from it was used as incense in religious ceremonies and some churches still use it today. It is a beautiful unique patter with dark and light brown swirls.

A worthwhile read for anyone who deals with teenagers and adolescents
Format: Kindle
Mr. Chapman’s series on the Five Love Languages is excellent reading for anyone who feels disconnected in their ability to love someone else effectively, and this book is an excellent addition. Teenagers are special little monsters who are transitioning from being cute kids to ugly adults, so they have to take it out on the world. Dr. Chapmen’s work helps to restore a level of humanity to them that can be forgotten by those on either side of that great transition into adulthood.

A MUST for parents of teens
Honestly. I wish I’d read this before my first child was a teen and not my last. This book is a GAME CHANGER, as is the original. So much insight into how to better connect with and truly make them feel loved.

Highly recommend
Format: Paperback
I have read the love languages for kids when my child was about 7 and I found it very helpful and gave me a very different perspective on handling issues that would come up. I purchased this book, more out of curiosity as I don’t have a difficult relationship with my teen but I found it very eye opening. It not only helped me realized things about my own childhood but also a better way to handle issues with my teen. I think this book is good for anyone who wants a closer relationship with their teen, anyone having trouble parenting their teen or anyone who simply wants to be the best parent they can be. This book could be the thing to change your perspective and your relationship with your teen. Don’t hope you and your child can have a good relationship when they are an adult. Be proactive and have one now so that when they do go off to college, they do want to come back home.

I was scared, but…
I’ve heard a lot of questionable stuff about this Bible. I’ve heard even more questionable stuff on out its main translator, but I just don’t see why. It’s really just an easy to read, almost novel-like version of the Bible. It has an explanation in the beginning explaining why it’s not exactly word for word; it has great explanations and commentary to help the reader understand the verse and the translations; it encourages readers to compare with other translations; and it has all “added for context, explanation, or better understanding” words in italics so if your skeptical about anything, you’ll know whether it’s added context. I love it. It’s helped me to read the Bible so much more than I ever have before and it’s strengthened my relationship with God so much because I can not only understand what I’m reading better, but I can understand it AS I read it. Previously, it used to take hours of questions, researching, studying, and learning the history and context of even the simplest verses. I still research and make sure I truly understand what I’m reading, but this has just made it so much easier and also made it possible for me to not have to make an Olympic sport out of reading my bible every time I go to read it.

Good Translation
I have been enjoying the thoughts found in this translation. I use the King James Version for most of my study but this version opens thought to new ideas on the familiar verses. For example, I John 3:1 - KJ: "Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:" Passion: "Look with wonder at the depth of the Father's marvelous love that he has lavished on us! He has called us and made us his very own beloved children". The Expresso binding is tight. The pages: you can see through where the white, non-typing is on one page and not the back page. Where typing is on both front and back pages there is no problem. The thinness of the pages is good for reading but probably not good for writing notes in the margins. The type is clear and easy to read. The font is small and you will need to use glasses if reading in the middle of the night with low light. I use this as a research Bible so I am not reading it chapter by chapter, therefore, the font is ok. I looked at other stores to buy this book but Amazon had the least expensive price, which I appreciate. I'm very pleased with this Passion translation.
