In the test method used here, the fungal spores fall from the air onto a moist, nutrient-rich test surface on which the microorganisms multiply and form a visible, more or less round or lobed colony after the incubation period (96 hours).

The more mold spores fall onto the test surface, the more colonies are formed, which can then be easily counted. The aim of the test is to determine the number of living mold spores in the room air that randomly fall onto the test surface in a certain time (30 minutes test time) and become visible there as a colony.

To ensure that the cause of the mold spores is inside the room, it is imperative to also test the mold spore content of the outside air.

To ensure a reliable result, the test should be carried out in a closed room by just one person. Unnecessary air movement should be avoided. Comparing the number of colonies determined with a guideline table provides initial indications of whether the air is contaminated with mold.

The limited test duration (30 minutes) and the subsequent incubation (96 hours) at room temperature means that very slow-growing and/or high-temperature-adapted fungi are not visible as colonies.

Although this inexpensive test does not allow an exact determination of the actual number of germs, the consumer does receive initial information about the quality of the air.

3 x AeroSpor test plates
2 x PE disposable gloves

• 1. Remove the 3 AeroSpor test plates, the instruction manual and the gloves from the packaging.
  2. Read the operating instructions carefully.
  3. Remove the adhesive strips from the test plates.
  4. Put on gloves before opening the test plates.
  5. Open a window and place test plate A outside on the windowsill. Then remove the lid and close the window.
  6. Now place the 2 test plates B in the room and remove the lids. Avoid touching the open test surfaces on each fill and do not breathe on the test plates. This would falsify the results.
  7. Leave the room.
  8. Put on gloves before closing the test plates.
  9. The AeroSpor test plates remain open for 30 minutes (test time), then close the test plates again with the lids. Lid A goes on the test plate that was placed outside. Lid B goes on the two test plates from inside. Tape the test plates together again with an adhesive strip and place the 3 AeroSpor test plates back horizontally in the box.
  10. The closed AeroSpor test plates are now stored in a safe place at room temperature in the box for 96 hours to allow the growth of the microorganisms.
  11. After the incubation period, remove the AeroSpor test plates (leave them closed) and count the colonies that have grown first on test plate A and then on test plates B.
      
      The colonies from test plates B are added together. Please then evaluate the test using the protocol and the reference value table.
